Poetry Walk

Over the Easter weekend I walked part of the Kirkby Stephen poetry walk.

The walk is a short route with carved poems along the way - we didn't walk all of it as it was part of a longer walk, but I managed to take a few snaps.....

If you're in the area I'd recommend it, especially if it's a nice day!

Having searched for more information on the route, I found that Eden Valley Scribes had got there before us!

And they have had a workshop based on the walk. Would that be of interest to NYC members?

Alcuin's Lost Library

I found out on Saturday that some members of York Scribes have been working with the University to produce some calligraphy based on the lost library. The exhibition is in the Minster library. Apparently it's not well signposted from outside so you have to know where you are going! See http://www.yorkminster.org/learning/the-old-palace-archives-conservation-and-library/

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the exhibition as it's only open Mon-Fri 2-4pm until 15 April.

There are two lectures on Friday starting at 6pm - on the subjects of Anglo-Saxon Northumbria and Alcuin's York. For details/tickets email boxoffice@Yorkminster.org or phone 0844 939 0015.

See the links below for more info...

Lots of people asked me where I got my Crayola gel fx crayons last week. I got them in Asda, but I can't remember how long ago!

They don't seem to stock them any more and they aren't listed on the Crayola websites
http://www.crayola.co.uk/

This Crayola product is also great fun - I'll try to find an example to post.

No wonder I don't get much done

Tried to spread some stuff out to photograph it....but someone else had other ideas. What must it be like to think that everything anyone else does is simply for your amusement?

Wordle

Ruth mentioned Wordle at the last Quarto meeting. Looks like it could be good for layout ideas. Give it a try!
This is just one layout using the words "north yorkshire calligraphers". If you click the randomise button you get a series of different layouts. I think it would be more interesting with more words.

AGM and workshop

Some of the lovely handmade cards sent/received by NYC group members...on display at the AGM last week.

AGM - 8 January

Just a reminder that the AGM is next Saturday. After the morning meeting we'll have a shortened version of the December workshop (aspects of Edward Johnson & writing his italic hand) which was postponed due to the weather. Please bring contributions for a shared lunch.

I have been writing my thank-you letters and decided to include a little bit of calligraphy too. This is based on an example from one of my favourite books, Lisa Engelbrecht's "Modern Mark-Making". You can get it here and here. You can see more of Lisa's work at her website and blog.

Hope to see everyone on Saturday, and Happy New Year.

Resolutions

How about this for a resolution? Print it out and put it where you need to see it often! I love the layout and it's available in a range of colours. This is a free printable, from here. I found it via Sarah London's blog. There's another good quote on there today too! Sarah mainly blogs about crochet and is definitely worth a visit.
